Cook Warming Up Towards the Tigers

Four-star football recruit Jamel Cook, an early FSU commitment, talks about recruiting and his interest in Auburn and other colleges.

Miami, Fla.--Jamel Cook, who participated in an Auburn football camp last week, said he plans to return to the AU campus later this year for an official visit.

A four-star safety at Miami Central, which annually fields one of the top high school football teams in the country, committed to Florida State in February, but is still looking at other colleges.

“The camp at Auburn was good,” he told Inside the Auburn Tigers. “I liked the campus and I liked everything about it.

““I am still committed to Florida State and I am considering Auburn, Bama (Alabama), UF (Florida) and UM (Miami),” he said.”

A versatile athlete who can play cornerback and wide receiver as well as safety, Cook pointed out he doesn’t have a favorite position. “I just like playing the game,” he said.

Although he was impressive as a junior, Cook isn’t satisfied. “I had an okay season, but I know it could have been better. I am going to grind hard and try to have a better senior season.”

At 6-4, 190 pounds he has the tools to do that. An athlete who also plays on the Central High basketball team as a small forward, Cook noted that he is eagerly anticipating the 2015 season.

“I want to help my team play like we have in the past and get back to state,” he said when asked what he is focusing on for his senior year. “We have got a good team.”

Cook and a group of teammates and coaches also visited Alabama this week. “It was good and they told me they want me to come back,” he said, noting he plans to take summer visits to Georgia, Florida State and Tennessee.
