“It’s pretty close,” Boykin said. “I’m narrowing everything down. I love Auburn University to death. I like the coaches and everything. I’m going to make it official sometime soon.
“I’m going to come back later this week with my mom so we can kind of narrow the process and make sure everything is how it’s supposed to be,” he added.
When asked the percentage of the chance that he’ll committ to Auburn when he returns later this week Boykin gave a very specific number.
Working in the camp setting with Garner along with several dozen prospects from the 40 teams in attendance for the camp, Boykin said that was big for him to allow him a feel for the guy that could be his future position coach.
“It was great,” Boykin said. “I was able to get some feedback from Coach Garner. He was hard on me and that’s what I like. I was able to go against some big-time competition too and all of them were pretty good.”
With former Carrollton teammate Dontavious Russell expected to be a big part of Auburn’s defensive line in the coming seasons and a close friend, Boykin said that’s big for him in regards to the Tigers, but there is also plenty more to like about the program.
“It’s everything,” Boykin said. “It’s the people, the athletic history, the academics. I just looked at what type of school I would want to come to if I wasn’t able to play football and Auburn is definitely the place.
“It’s pretty cool,” he added of having Russell at Auburn. “Dontavious has always been the type to tell me what was wrong and what was right. It’s pretty good to have him around.”
