Editor's Note: This is the sixth in a series of previews of Auburn's 2015 football opponents.
After a bye week Auburn travels to Lexington for a Thursday night game with the Kentucky Wildcats. Coach Mark Stoops and his team will be coming off a bye as well. The game against Auburn on Oct. 15 will be the final in a stretch of four straight contests at Commonwealth Stadium with the first three against Florida, Missouri and Eastern Kentucky.
Quarterback Patrick Towles surprised many during his sophomore season by accumulating 3,021 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground and through the air. The 6-5, 241-pound playmaker will work with new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, who brings his air-raid offense from West Virginia.
The defense will be led by senior linebacker Josh Forrest (110 tackles, one interception returned for touchdown). A player who flew under the radar last season, Forrest will look to break out onto the national scene and provide more performances like his 20-tackle game vs. Tennessee.
Kentucky has a favorable schedule to start the season and with improvement, and a little bit of luck, could reasonably sit at 4-1 or 3-2 heading into its clash with Auburn. Thursday night games can on occasion be tricky so the Tigers must take the Wildcats seriously if they want to leave the Bluegrass State with a win.
