Seniors Jones, Frost Earn Malzahn's Trust

Two senior defenders got the call to represent Auburn at SEC Football Media Days.

Hoover, Ala.--Coach Gus Malzahn said the two seniors he chose to represent the Auburn football program at SEC Media Days are good selections because they are proven performers and team-first players.

Linebacker Kris Frost and cornerback Jonathan Jones joined junior quarterback Jeremy Johnson at media days on Monday.

“I trust them and they have been leaders for us since we have been back,” said Malzahn, who is going into his third season as Auburn’s head coach.

Both of them have performed extremely well on the field,” he said. “Kris has been one of our leading tacklers the last two years. He had a chance to leave early and decided to come back and get his degree. I think that is very important.

“Jonathan was our defensive MVP last year and he made some huge defensive plays that were very impactful,” the coach pointed out. “Both of those guys were very impactful on and off the field.

“Our theme this year is count on me and we definitely can count on those guys,” Malzahn added.

Jones said he was excited to get the invitation to participate in media days. “It is a great feeling just to be able to represent Auburn,” the senior said. “Anytime you get to do that it shows you are doing the right thing.”

Asked why he believes he was chosen by Malzahn to make the trip, Jones said, “We have had talks and I am a leader on and off the field. I talk to guys, whether it is about football or not about football. We have our motto, count on me, and the biggest thing is can he trust you? If Coach Malzahn can trust you, he will bend over backwards for you.”
