A prospect who performed well last week in Oregon at The Opening, Burns is on an SEC tour of colleges with his teammates at American Heritage High. He pointed out that so far it has been a good trip.
“We visited Alabama, LSU and then Auburn. We are hitting Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. The trip to Auburn was hot, but it was good. I can’t wait to visit these other schools, too. Once I do that I should be ready to make a decision.
“Recruiting is going very well actually,” said the six-foot-four, 217-pounder. “Things are getting a little interesting. I am coming down towards making a decision. It is like I want to, but I think I should think it out more, take more visits, talk to coaches more and really get to know where I want to be.”
Asked for his take on Coach Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers, he said, “I like Auburn. Not only does it have the tradition in football, I like the place because my brother (Stanley McClover) used to play there and we used to come down to see his games. The people were always nice. The environment at Auburn is great.”
McClover, a former defensive end, upset Auburn officials with some comments about his former team. Asked about that, Burns said, “They fell out, but he says nothing bad about them. He is hands-off on where he wants me to go. We are all good and it is a neutral feeling.”
Asked what he does best as a defensive end, the prospect who just turned 17 years old said, “It is my speed and my hands, but I still need to improve both. I am also working on improving my strength and my size.”
