“It’s amazing,” Maccollister said. “They have amazing facilities and it’s a beautiful atmosphere.”
While some high school linemen approach the 340 pound range before getting to college, Maccollister is 100 pounds shy of that as he gets ready for his junior season at Bishop Moore. That could be considered a negative for some programs, but Auburn isn’t one of them.
“He (Grimes) likes my body shape and the lean-ness,” Maccollister said. “They don’t like fat linemen, they like athletic linemen and they like that about me. I’m still growing and they like that about me, too.”
Being looked at by Auburn as an interior player who could play guard or center, Maccollister said at the moment he’s focused on his two favorites and also wants to get a look at Indiana before going into junior season. While he’s still very much open, the talented young lineman said Auburn is firmly on his list following his visit.
“They’re up there,” Maccollister said. “Right now I like them and Clemson at the top right now. It’s hard to say either one is on top.
“For Auburn it’s just the tradition,” he added. “The city is just beautiful and just the tradition like I said. Clemson, it’s the family atmosphere, the same thing as Auburn basically.”
