“It was a great visit today,” Character said. “I can say it gets better and better every time. My girlfriend liked Auburn and wanted to go for a visit to see about the academic part. She had been telling me a lot after researching the school and told me some stuff that I needed to know about it too. It was a great visit seeing the dorms and classrooms, everything. It just got better.”
Putting Auburn in the rising category following his visit in June, Character said the Tigers have now moved to the top as he prepares to make a decision sometime before his senior season begins. With a strong relationship with Will Muschamp and Travaris Robinson on the defensive side of the ball, he said that even the head coach is someone he has a great bond with.
“I talk to the most coaches at this school (Auburn) and probably talk to the whole coaching staff,” Character said. “I haven’t done that with every school. Me and Coach Gus Malzahn have a great relationship. I talk to him a lot. Every time I come up there I sit down and talk to him for a long time just about different things. It’s just a great relationship between me and the coaching staff.
“Right now Auburn is standing out,” he added. “They are pushing me for a commitment right now. I kind of see it happening sometime soon, but I want to talk about it with my dad because he hasn’t had a chance to go down there because he’s been working. I can see myself coming to Auburn to play football.”
Getting his girlfriend back on campus was an important thing for Character because their future plans are built around each other. With both wanting a quality education and environment, Character said Auburn fits the bill.
“I can say that it is the plan for us to go to the same school,” Character said. “It has been the plan ever since day one. We have been together for a while. Most of the schools I like she likes, but it’s not just because I like it, it’s because of her own reasons.”
One of the things that stood out to Character and Pass on the visit was the South Donahue Residence Hall complex. The dorms that house most of Auburn’s athletes as well as a large student population, Character said having the chance to call those home would be huge.
“I had never seen the dorms before and they were just amazing,” Character said. “Seeing how new they look and how expensive they would be for someone that wasn’t a football player, that was just great. She liked the medical facility because she wants to be a doctor and work around that field.”
Scheduled to visit South Carolina this weekend, Character said he could change his mind after talking with his family following his Auburn visit. He plans to make a decision sometime before his senior year.
