Auburn Picked 7th In Preseason Coaches' Poll

Auburn was picked to finish 7th in the first preseason coaches' poll that was released on Thursday.

Auburn, Ala.--Coming off a disappointing finish to the 2014 season and an 8-5 overall record, the Auburn Tigers will start this season in the Top 10 as Coach Gus Malzahn’s team is ranked seventh in the Amway Coaches’ Poll that was released on Thursday.

Defending national champ Ohio State leads the way with 62 of the 64 first-place votes in the initial poll with TCU and Alabama each getting one vote and coming in at second and third. Baylor comes in fourth with Oregon and Michigan State fifth and sixth respectively. Rounding out the remainder of the Top 10 was Florida State, Georgia and USC.

Auburn is one of eight SEC teams in the initial poll along with Alabama and Georgia in the Top 10. The other league members in the poll are LSU (13), Ole Miss (15), Arkansas (20) and Tennessee (25). Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Kentucky also received votes in the poll.

The Tigers open practice on Aug. 4 with the first game against Louisville in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Sept. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. central. The Cardinals were unranked in the coaches’ poll but received votes and would be the 32nd team in the rankings.
