As the six-foot-five, four-star offensive guard prepares for his senior season at Spalding High School, he says that he feels strongly he made the right choice to pick Coach Gus Malzahn’s team.
“I am 100 percent an Auburn Tiger,” he says. “I am not changing my mind. Auburn will be my only official visit.”
With recruiting on the backburner, Hamm can concentrate on getting ready to play football for his high school team. “I want this to be my best season,” he says. “I want to come out of the season healthy and for our team to have a successful season that ends with us winning the state title.”
Asked what he has been working on this summer, the rising senior says “My footwork and I want to drop around 15 pounds and get stronger. Right now I weigh 330.”
If he can drop the weight the added quickness should help him on both sides of the line of scrimmage. “I am going to be playing defensive tackle and some defensive end,” he points out, adding that he thinks it will be fun to get to tackle opponents.
When he gets to Auburn he will be lining up on offense for position coach J.B. Grimes. “He is ready for me to come to Auburn,” says Hamm, who notes it is still to be determined whether he will be a guard or a tackle for the Tigers. “He wants me to work hard and he said he can’t wait to coach me.”
On his most recent visit to Auburn, Hamm visited Jordan-Hare Stadium and was impressed with the new south end zone scoreboard featuring what is the largest video board on a college campus. “I liked the video board,” he says. “It is going to be pretty. I can’t wait to get to the games, see the field and all of that.”
