Heading into his redshirt freshman season defensive tackle Dontavius Russell is a player the Auburn Tigers will be counting on heavily to produce at the line of scrimmage. Following a strong spring the Carrollton, Ga. native is ready to get on the field for Coach Rodney Garner following a redshirt season a year ago. He talks about that, his improvement, Garner as a coach, and much more in this video interview.
Part of a defensive tackle group that has very little experience outside Montravius Adams, Russell said the goal this camp is to continue to build depth but he believes they've got the guys to get the job done.
“In the middle, like my coach said, we got some of the most talented people, we just don’t have as much depth," Russell said. "It’s one of those situations where we just got to keep coming along and get better with each practice, but I feel like we’re coming along. It’s just knowing the scheme and all that different type of stuff. It’s making it through and getting better.”
