Auburn's new defensive coordinator, Muschamp said his group is making progress, but not enough for his satisfaction. However, the coach did like the progress he is seeing from the versatile Countess, a graduate student transfer from the University of Michigan.
A former All-Big 10 cornerback for the Wolverines from the state of Maryland, Countess began looking for a new college home following a coaching change at Michigan and decided to enroll at Auburn this summer. Since arriving his new teammates have said he has fit in nicely, both personality-wise and athletically.
With the ability to play safety as well as in the nickel package, he is expected to be a valuable performer for an Auburn team that ended spring training short on experienced depth in the secondary.
Countess, Muschamp and the rest of Coach Gus Malzahn's Tigers will open the 2015 schedule vs. the University of Louisville on Sept. 5th in Atlanta vs. the Louisville Cardinals. When the teams square off at the Georgia Dome, it will be just the second time they have played in football. The Tigers won the previous matchup, but that was long before any of the current players were born.
