2018 Prospect Back At Auburn

Already with an offer from the Auburn Tigers, 2018 prospect Tony Johnson talks about his visit last weekend.

Eufaula, Ala.--Already with an Auburn offer, 2018 guard Tony Johnson is one of the top sophomore players in Alabama and was included in a special group last weekend on the Plains. With Auburn’s top targets on hand for a basketball version of Big Cat Weekend Johnson said to be included in the festivities was a big deal for him.

“The weekend was different,” Johnson said. “When I usually come up there it’s for a sporting event or basketball game, but the weekend was more settled. Specifically they had their Top 15 recruits there so that was good. We had the elite camp on Sunday and it was my first time in it. It was good, real good competition.

“It was special knowing my hard work is paying off and I’m a Top 15 recruit for a big-time university,” he added. “That was special to me. It shows me what I have to do, keep working and improving. It was very special.”

Already very familiar with Auburn having made plenty of trips the last two years, Johnson said the visit was very different for him because of some of the special things the players had the chance to do while on campus and around town.

“Really it was just being surrounded by all the great players,” Johnson said. “It was also just the hospitality we had. I really enjoyed the part of the tour where we went to see the jets. It was different because you wouldn’t expect to be going to the airport to see the jets on a basketball visit. The scavenger hunt was really fun as well.”

Planning visits to Georgia, Vanderbilt, Troy Alabama, UAB, Mississippi State and Murray State, Johnson said while he’s still very much open with still three years left in high school there is something about Auburn that gives him a comfortable feeling about the Tigers heading into his sophomore season.

“There is just a family feel there,” Johnson said. “The coaching staff makes it feel like home. They have been recruiting me the longest, but I’m also really close with a lot of guys on the team so when I go up it’s kind of like I’m part of the family.
