Hinesville, Ga.--Class of 2017 four-star basketball prospect Davion Mitchell has committed to Coach Bruce Pearl’s Auburn basketball Tigers.
A standout at an Auburn basketball camp this summer, he chose the Tigers over Louisville, Georgia, Florida, UConn, Tennessee and others. "I really like Auburn and Coach Pearl," says the athletic prospect, who joins five-star Austin Wiley from Spain Park High School in Birmingham as commitments for the Auburn 2017 signee class. Mitchell, who has made multiple visits to Auburn this year, said he likes the campus, facilities and the "family atmosphere" at Auburn, something he noted he is looking for in his college destination.
The six-foot-one guard plays for Liberty County High and was a standout this summer for the Georgia Stars 16s AAU team. He is ranked as the No. 49 overall prospect in the 2017 signee class by Scout.com and the No. 13 point guard prospect. He is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in Georgia for his signee class and the No. 1 point guard.
Davion Mitchell is one of the nation's top guard prospects.
Scout's recruiting analysts have this assement of Mitchell's performance at the Peach Jam event this summer.
“There can’t be a top performer list from the Peach Jam and not include Mitchell, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound combination guard out of Hinesville (Ga.) Liberty County. Mitchell helped lead the Georgia Stars 16’s bunch to the Sweet 16 championship. He didn’t score below double figures in a game, averaged 17.2 points and shot 54.9-percent from the field through six games. Mitchell is tough and physical off the dribble. He’s quick, can create his own shot and competes on both ends."
The Tigers also have a commitment from four-star guard Jared Harper from the Georgia Stars for the 2016 signee class. Harper plans to sign with the Tigers in November.
