What Auburn Is Getting In Defensive Lineman David Marshall

Taking a look at Auburn's newest commitment, defensive lineman David Marshall.

David Marshall

Size: 6-3, 280

Ranking On Scout: 3-Star| No. 45 DT| No. 7 DT in Georgia

Recruiting: Chose Auburn over Alabama, Clemson, Ole Miss and others

Scout’s Take:

Marshall is one of those prospects who immediately passes the eye test. He has a very nice frame with nice bulk and length. He is very strong and power is a big part of his success on the high school level. He likes to bull rush and beat his opponent at the point of attack with his size and power. He will need improve his pad level, his consistency off the ball, and his counter moves to get penetration. Good feet and ability to play run.

What It Means:

This is another big step for Auburn’s defense with a quality defensive lineman coming onboard for Will Muschamp and Rodney Garner. A physical prospect that’s capable of playing end or tackle during his career, he should be a good fit for the 3-4 look that Muschamp likes to employ.

With a huge need on the defensive line Marshall becomes the fourth commitment in the group for Auburn joining Marlon Davidson, Daquan Newkirk and Tashawn Manning. With a need to sign at least seven and likely eight defensive linemen in the 2016 class that means roughly half of the class is already done.

Now the focus shifts to a true pass rusher off the edge and at least two tackles that are ready to play right away. That would be the ideal situation for Auburn and go a long way towards remedying the depth and talent issues the Tigers are dealing with currently.
