Wellington, Fla.--One of the top athletes in the country, four-star speedster Ahmmon Richards came into his weekend visit for the Iron Bowl with Alabama as his leader. Following his look at the Auburn program on the biggest weekend of the year Richards said everything is once again back to even between Auburn, Alabama and Miami.
“I don’t have a leader anymore,” Richards said. “They gave me something to definitely think about all over again. It’s all even now.
“The visit was really good,” he added. “It was way better than I expected. It was like a family atmosphere like I said before. I really loved it. I spent time with the players and coaches a lot more. I really love it down there.
“I expected it to be a good environment,” he added. “Spending time with the players is what got me the most, seeing how they are because you’re going to be around them every day. They treat you really well.”
That’s exactly the type of atmosphere that Richards said he was looking for out of his future home prior to his trip this week. Now that he saw that from Auburn he said the Tigers checked off all the boxes on his list.
“It definitely put them right at the top,” Richards said. “This is what I look for in the recruiting process, family, so that’s what I love about Auburn right now.”
Hosted on his visit by Ryan Davis and spending time with Byron Cowart and Jeff Holland, Richards said he had a “really good time” being around them all weekend.
With his visit on Iron Bowl weekend Richards said he wasn’t surprised at how crazy the atmosphere was at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but he had been to other big games and said there was just something different.
“I went to the Alabama-LSU game but this was just different,” Richards said. “It was a different type of environment and I liked it a lot. The fans were crazy. The Tiger Walk and all that stuff is amazing.”
With Ricardo Louis and Melvin Ray both seniors this season and very few underclassmen on the roster, Richards said the opportunity to come in and play immediately at Auburn is one of the things that also attracts him to the Tigers.
“I want to play early and they have like four guys that are leaving,” Richards said. “There are opportunities to play early there, which is something I really want to do.”
Planning to make his decision on or around signing day Richards said he has official visits to Miami on Jan. 15 and Alabama the following weekend.
