Atlanta, Ga.--Originally scheduled to visit Virginia Tech this weekend, Auburn commitment Marlon Character instead returned to the Plains to visit the Tigers and left very sure of his decision to sign with Gus Malzahn’s program on signing day.
“It was a lot of back and forth going on as far as recruiting standpoint as far as the coaches, but it’s pretty solid,” Character said of his decision. “It’s 100 percent.
“It was very important for me just to let the coaches know where I stand with them,” he added. “They said they were glad they don’t have to worry about me anymore and that I was good to go. I talked with Coach Malzahn about some things, just sealing the deal.”
Planning to sign with Auburn at 9 a.m. central time, Character said his dad has already told Virginia Tech and South Carolina of his plans to sign with Auburn. Now that his decision is final he said it was the perfect time to get back to Auburn and just enjoy the day with his future coaches and teammates while also hanging out with several young guys he knows from the Atlanta area.
“I really wanted to see the basketball game and enjoy the game,” Character said. “I heard that a couple of juniors that I work out with were going to be there and I wanted to see them and hang out with them. That was A.J. Terrell and Carlito Gonzalez, I know those guys.I was just talking to them.”
