Montgomery, Ala.--A talented safety prospect that has seen his stock rise in recent weeks, three-star Daniel Thomas had a busy weekend as he followed up a visit to Minnesota with a trip to see the Auburn Tigers to finish things off. Getting the chance to spend time with the coaches and players, Thomas said overall it was a very good visit.
“It was nice, what I expected,” Thomas said. “The people, support, coaches, all of them are family and it feels like home.”
Still waiting on an offer from Auburn, Thomas said the coaches told him that everything is still up in the air as they wait to see what happens themselves the last few days before signing day.
“There is no doubt I can play, but it’s a numbers game,” Thomas said. “They got here late and they already offered out too many scholarships and that wasn’t their fault. I’m just going to be patient and wherever God takes me I’ll be happy with that.”
“I’ll pretty much know my position before signing day,” he added. “Tonight they’re going to call me back around 6 o’clock and I’ll let you guys know.”
In addition to Auburn, Thomas traveled to Minneapolis to check out the Golden Gophers on Thursday and Friday. One of the schools on his final list, Minnesota Golden Gophers definitely made an impression he said.
“It was a great experience,” Thomas said. “The coaches really surrounded themselves around me. It felt like home up there too. It’s just a little cold with the wind. It was about 30 or 40 degrees up there.”
With a signing day announcement planned at Robert E. Lee High School, Thomas said for him the final decision will come down to a few specific things.
“I’m just looking for a great atmosphere, comfortable,” Thomas said. “Somewhere I can be for the next four years of my life.”
