Apopka, Fla.--Defensive lineman Tashawn Manning, who committed to Coach Gus Malzahn’s Auburn football team last June, is not expected to be able to compete this coming season as he continues undergoing treatment for acute promyelocytic Leukemia, but AU is listing him as a member of its 2016 signing class after getting a waiver from the NCAA because of special circumstances.
A Class 8A All-State selection at Wekiva High School, his parents, Buck and Nakia Manning, were college athletes themselves. His father played football at Marshall University where his mother was on the basketball team.
Manning, who chose the Tigers over North Carolina, North Carolina State and Central Florida, has also competed in the shot put and discus in high school.
Prior to transferring to Wekiva High, he played football at Evans in Orlando with Auburn quarterback commitment Woody Barrett. Manning notes the two have been friends since playing together in youth league football.
