Kennesaw, Ga.--A linebacker that has the size and athleticism to be a force on the next level, 6-3, 215 Chandler Wooten from North Cobb High was on the Auburn Tigers campus Saturday and left with the Tigers on top. With a huge need in the 2017 class at the linebacker position Wooten is a player that would be a good fit in Coach Kevin Steele's defense and he felt the love from Auburn on his visit.
“I really love the environment at Auburn,” Wooten said. “I love the coaching staff and the direction they’re going in. I could definitely see myself playing there.
“It feels good to go somewhere you are needed and wanted,” he added. “There’s definitely a connection with Auburn and they’re definitely at the top of my list right now.”
One of the reasons Auburn has made a big move for Wooten is his relationship with Travis Williams. The linebacker coach for the Tigers and a former All-SEC player, Williams’ energy and enthusiasm is something that has definitely carried over to the recruiting trail.
“Coach Williams has been where I want to be,” Wooten said. “He played at Auburn and shoots it straight. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Me and Coach Williams have a good relationship and we talk every other day at least.”
Also looking at Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee, Wooten said at the moment he’s hoping to have a decision sometime in the coming months and that means the Tigers are in very good shape considering his thoughts on Auburn following his Saturday trip.
“It’s most definitely the family feel,” Wooten said. “It’s also close to home. My parents love it, my family loves it, I love it. I really love Auburn right now.
“I’m shooting for at least before the summer,” he added of his plays. “If I don’t hit that target then it’s all right because it’s a life decision and I want to make sure I do the right thing.”
