Nashville, Tenn.--A talented running back who can do it all for Montgomery Bell Academy, four-star Ty Chandler was in Auburn recently to get a look at the Tigers and spend time with the coaching staff and checking out the campus.
After seeing what the Auburn Tigers are all about Chandler said the Tigers are in the picture as a college of interest.
“It was a good day,” Chandler said. “I saw a lot of great things and met with some coaches and talked with them. I got to see practice and see what it would be like. That’s always good to see.”
A dynamic back who has the speed to take it the distance while also physical enough to run between the tackles, Chandler said watching Auburn’s offense showed him how well he would fit with what the Tigers do on that side of the ball.
“The way they run the ball and how they move the ball and the tempo is all good stuff,” Chandler said. “They did some great things. Just to see them run some similar plays to what I kind of run in high school and the plays they run different than us is kind of good to see.”
Tyler Chandler is one of the top prospects in the state of Tennessee.
With just four running backs on scholarship for the Tigers heading into the 2016 season and Jovon Robinson a senior this fall, Auburn’s need at the position is obvious for a prospect to see. That doesn’t mean the Tigers will take just anyone ,however, as Coach Tim Horton is looking for specific things in his running backs, something he told Chandler..
“Basically he was just talking about whether I would fit in there or not,” Chandler said. “He talked the fit and described some plays to me and talked about what it would be like if I came there and just gave me an overall preview of the school and football program.
“It’s always big,” he added of the need for backs for the Tigers. “Everyone wants to get a chance to play as soon as they can. To be able to maybe come in and play as soon as I get there is something to look forward to. That could be a factor.”
Planning to be back in Auburn for the season opener against Clemson, Chandler said at the moment he is still open as he looks for the best fit for him and his future. Adding the Tigers are standing out to him along with Ole Miss and Tennessee because those are the three schools he’s visited, Chandler said he hopes to get to several more schools in the future. He received an offer from Michigan this week to add to his already large list of schools.
