4-Star Devan Barrett Has "Great" Visit To See The Auburn Tigers In Action

Auburn got a visit from one of the top players in Florida over the weekend and he left impressed by what he saw from the Tigers.

Tampa, Fla.--One of the top running back prospects in the country, four-star Devan Barrett from Tampa Catholic High was on the Auburn campus and left impressed by Gus Malzahn’s Tigers. Spending time with the coaching staff and several players, he said that the Auburn Tigers definitely made a push for him on his visit.

“It was a great visit,” Barrett said. “Coach (Malzahn) treated me well. I went out with Ryan Davis and actually spent some time with the team. It was a great visit all the way around and the environment was great. I can’t wait to get back.

“They are very high on my list,” he added. “I haven’t really narrowed my list down, but I can tell you right now that the Auburn Tigers are definitely high on my list.”

Also looking at Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and several other programs, Barrett said several things stood out about the trip for him and one of those was the way the Tigers looked on the practice field.

“It was the speed,” Barrett said. “Coach Malzahn was telling me that’s what they want as a offense, they speed with good reps and more reps. All in all, it was just fast faced.”

Taking the visit along with Auburn signee Nate Craig and spending time with Davis and several other players he’s friends with that play for the Tigers, Barrett said thats’ something that is big for him because of that bond he already has.

“It just friends up there, people I can spend time with,” Barrett said. “They’re just showing me around, great role models and kids to be around.”

Sitting through team meetings with the Tigers and getting the chance to watch Coach Tim Horton and the running backs in action, Barrett said he sees an opportunity with Auburn at his position and believes playing for Horton would be a very good experience.

“They are great,” Barrett said of Auburn’s backs. “I know they have juniors and a couple of seniors so if I were to commit there I could probably get a starting spot or a lot of playing time.

“Coach Horton is a great guy,” he added. “I talked to him the whole time I was there. On and off the field he’s a good man to talk to.”

With no commitment plans on the horizon, Barrett said at the moment he’s still just taking things in but his look at Auburn was one that made a big impact for him as he heads into the heart of spring recruiting.

“It definitely got me thinking,” Barrett said. “When I went up to Florida it was a great visit also. The visit to Auburn got me thinking and it’s a great place to be.”
