Buford, Ga.--A physical four-star linebacker and high school teammate of Auburn Tigers signee and five-star Derrick Brown, Tyler Taylor made the trip to the Plains for Saturday’s A-Day game with Brown and left with the Tigers climbing his list of schools.
“I think they are recruiting me real heavy and I like the school a lot,” Taylor said. “I really don’t have a top school, but they’re definitely up there. They jumped up a lot.”
One of the things that helped Auburn on Saturday was the way that Coach Travis Williams approached the visit. Always smiling and talking to people, Williams did that same thing with Taylor’s family and it had a big impact.
“What stood out to me is that when I went on a visit yesterday with family friend Antonneous Clayton (Florida), he said it was about the coaches and how they treated his mom. When I first met Coach T Will (Travis Williams) he came up and talked to my mom. He met them instead of making them come down to meet him. I think that was the best part for me.”
That positive first impression from the first-year linebacker coach carried over to the field as his style of coaching and the way Auburn’s linebackers played stood out to Taylor. Even more than that for Taylor he said it’s just a feel he gets when he’s around the young coach.
“He just has something about him that is different than a lot of other coaches I have seen,” Taylor said. “I don’t know how to explain it.”
Planning to be back on the Plains sometime soon, Taylor said Brown has told him plenty about Auburn and now that he’s gotten a look at things himself he’s ready to see more.
“Derrick tells me that he really loves the place,” Taylor said. “He says that Auburn has a different atmosphere than all of the places with a real family feel.”
