Kennesaw, Ga.--A talented linebacker prospect that has offers from many of the top programs in the country, three-star Chandler Wooten from North Cobb High was back on the Auburn Tigers campus Saturday to check out the A-Day game. Spending time with the coaching staff and paying close attention to Travis Williams and the linebackers, Wooten said the visit only solidified Auburn as one of his top schools at the moment.
“It’s very close at the top right now,” Wooten said. “I still love Auburn with Coach T Will and Coach (Kevin) Steele and the whole defensive staff. I could definitely see myself playing there. Auburn is still at the top, most definitely.”
Recently saying Tennessee was his leader, Wooten said now that he’s visited both places multiple times the Tigers and Vols are tied at the top.
“They are both neck-and-neck right now,” he said. “They are 1A and 1B.”
Watching as Auburn’s defense controlled Saturday’s public scrimmage, Wooten said he enjoyed seeing them compete and especially enjoyed watching Williams’ linebackers get after it.
“It was just watching them play in a game atmosphere for this upcoming system,” Wooten said of the visit. “I liked to see the defense fly around. They really had a good day on both sides. It was very good to see.
“That’s somebody I would definitely want to play for,” he added of Williams. “He’s in command of his linebackers. He’s very energetic. That’s somebody I would definitely want to play for so I like his coaching style.”
Saying that he plans to cut his list down as he heads into the summer, Wooten said he hopes to make a decision sometime before his senior season. Wooten added that Auburn will visit him twice during the spring with Williams and Tim Horton both planning a trip to watch him practice.
