Auburn, Ala.--One of the best players in the country on one of the best teams in the country, Auburn junior third baseman Kasey Cooper backed up a huge 2015 season with another dominant performance this year and because of that she was named the National Player of the Year by espnW on Wednesday. Batting .431 with 19 home runs, 73 RBI and slugging an incredible .922, Cooper has put up video game numbers this season for the Tigers.
To show just how well she's played consider this, Cooper enters the NCAA tournament second in the nation in RBIs, fifth in slugging percentage, sixth in on-base percentage and tied for ninth in home runs. No other player in the country ranks in the top 10 in each category.
This weekend Cooper and the Tigers will try to defend their home field at Jane B. Moore Field against Jacksonville State, Oregon State and USC Upstate in the Auburn Regional.
