Auburn, Ala.--Already with a slate of tough non-conference games scheduled for the 2016-17 season, including facing final four team Oklahoma, Coach Bruce Pearl's Auburn Tigers will take on four-time national champion UConn as well, a source confirmed to Inside The Auburn Tigers. Facing the Huskies in Hartford, Conn. on Dec. 23, Auburn will get a return game the following season with the date still to be determined.
Facing Oklahoma in the "Birthday of Basketball" game at the Hall of Fame on Dec. 21, Auburn will make the short trip to Hartford two days later to face UConn. It will be the third game in less than a month in the area for the Tigers as they also face Boston College on Dec. 12 at Madison Square Garden in the Under Armour "Reunion".
Auburn last met UConn in the Great Alaskan Shootout in the 1989 season, a game won by the Huskies.
The game will be an early homecoming for five-star guard Mustapha Heron. The Auburn freshman was a star player at Sacred Heart in Waterbury, where he led his team to three consecutive state championships.
Other non-conference games for the Tigers will be Georgia State on Nov. 14 and Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 17 as part of the Cancun Challenge. They will then face Texas Tech on Nov. 22 and either Purdue or Utah State the next day. They will also be at TCU on Jan. 28 as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
