One of the top linebacker targets for the Auburn Tigers, four-star Tyler Taylor from Lanier High in Buford, Ga. was on the Plains on Thursday to take part in a 7-on-7 camp with his teammates. Spending time with Coach Travis Williams in between games as well as catching up with Lanier teammate and Auburn freshman Derrick Brown, Taylor said it’s always good to get back to see the Tigers.
“I really love Auburn,” Taylor said. “If I committed here it would be like family. I know that for a fact. Coach T-Will is just a cool dude. He's young and he can relate. I can talk to him like a dad.
“He's just showing love,” he added. “I like that a lot. He's just showing love and I think that's important.”
Expected to contend for early playing time at Auburn, Brown was around his former teammates a good bit on Thursday and Taylor said it was good to see him again. Telling Taylor that “he’s loved Auburn for a long time”, Brown is definitely looking the part he said.
“He trimmed down probably like 10 pounds but somebody like him, you can't really tell,” Taylor said. “He could be 330 and look 315. He could be 310 and still look 310. He holds his weight well.”
Looking at Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State at the moment, Taylor said a few schools are standing above the rest right now.
“Georgia, Oklahoma and Auburn are standing out right now, and Alabama,” Taylor said. “I'm going to put them in there.”
Planning to make a decision sometime in the first three weeks of his senior season, Taylor said making a connection with the coaching staff is going to be a big part of things for him. Getting a strong push from all of his favorites, his original plans were to make a decision sometime in July but that has changed.
“It's hard,” Taylor said. “Every time you go somewhere, you're like, 'OK, I really like this school.' Every school has nice programs so they're going to show you the best they have.”
Taylor plans to visit Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma before making his choice.
