William Barnes did not have to wait long after his trip to the Plains to pick up a scholarship offer from the Tigers.
“I was hoping Auburn would offer because it is a fantastic school,” the class of 2018 offensive tackle told Inside the Auburn Tigers.
Rated a four-star recruit by Scout.com, the 6-3 1/2, 285-pounder excelled in the one-on-one drills, grabbing the attention of Auburn’s new offensive line coach, Herb Hand.
“I thought the camp was really great and I really like the way that Coach Hand coaches,” Barnes said.
With it being his first trip to Auburn he also toured the football facilities and other parts of the university.
“I got a chance to see the campus and I think it is great,” he said.
Auburn is the second SEC program to offer him a scholarhip along with the Florida Gators. Barnes also said he has offers from Miami, FSU, North Carolina and Florida Atlantic.
In addition to football, he plays basketball at Apopka High and throws the shot put and discus for the track and field team.
