Hollywood, Fla.--One of the fastest prospects in the country regardless of classification, class of 2018 running back Shaun Shivers from Chaminade-Madonna Prep took a visit over the weekend to check out the Auburn Tigers. Spending time with the coaches and getting a feel for the program, he said Gus Malzahn’s program is “definitely sticking out” after the trip.
“The visit to Auburn was great,” Shivers told Inside the Auburn Tigers. “I really loved it. I felt the love between me and the coaches. What stood out was the beautiful campus that Auburn has.”
A 5-6, 165-pounder, Shivers carried the ball 148 times for 1,219 yards and scored 19 touchdowns as a sophomore for the Lions. With blazing speed, recently recording a 10.47 in the 100-meter dash and a 21.13 in the 200, Shivers said he believes the Auburn offense has attracted his attention.
“It fits me because they run the ball a bit out of the spread offense and a bit of two backs,” Shivers said. “The backfield is something like we run at my school.
“They like everything about my game,” he added. “How I get downhill, run people over, get my foot on the ground and get downhill.”
Spending plenty of time with Auburn running backs coach Tim Horton, Shivers said he enjoyed getting to learn more about Auburn, the offense and the personalities that make up the staff. In particular, he said Horton’s message to him and his history of producing running backs definitely stands out.
“The coaching staff is great,” Shivers said. “They will do big things this year. Coach Horton is a great coach. Every back he has always has a 1,000 yard season. He taught some of the best running backs like Tre Mason.”
With schools such as West Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Mississippi State, South Carolina, TCU and Virginia Tech on his list, Shivers said he’s looking forward to getting back to Auburn with plans to be in Jordan-Hare Stadium for the season opener against Clemson on Sept. 3.
