Auburn, Ala.--With the Southeastern Conference announcing its men’s basketball league games on Tuesday the 2016-17
Auburn schedule is completed.
Coach Bruce Pearl’s Tigers will go on public display on Friday Nov. 4th with an exhibition game vs. Montevallo. A week later they open the regular season at home vs. North Florida. SEC play begins with the earliest conference game in 28 years when Georgia visits Auburn Arena on Dec. 29th.
The last time the Tigers opened SEC play in January was on Dec. 14, 1988 when they played Vanderbilt.
Pearl will have six additional scholarship players this season. The group includes 6-5 freshman guard Mustapha Heron, 6-8 graduate transfer forward LaRon Smith, 6-7 freshman forward Anfernee McLemore, 6-0 graduate transfer point guard Ronnie Johnson and 6-7 redshirt freshman guard Danjel Purifoy, who was not eligible to compete last year. The Tigers also brought in 6-4 forward DeSean Murray, a transfer from Presbyterian, who will redshirt this season.
Returnees include 6-5 senior guard T.J. Dunans, 6-7 junior guard T.J. Lang, 6-5 senior forward Devin Waddell, 6-9 sophomore center Horace Spencer, 6-3 sophomore guard Bryce Brown, 6-0 junior guard Patrick Keim, 6-2 sophomore guard New Williams and 6-9 forward Cole Blackstock.
T.J. Dunans, who missed part of his junior season with a knee injury, is full speed again for his senior year.
Walk-on newcomers include 6-10 freshman center/forward Heath Huff, 6-4 freshman guard Will Macoy, 5-10 freshman guard Mike Cohen and 6-6 sophomore forward Trey Tate.
Pearl’s third Auburn team will play three home-and-home series vs. Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU and Missouri. The Tigers will travel to Kentucky, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Texas A&M on the road and will be at Auburn Arena for league games vs. Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi State in Auburn Arena.
Including the non-conference tournament games the Tigers could face as many as seven games vs. teams in the 2016 NCAA Tournament and eight more that played in the NIT.
The Tigers play Mississippi State on Feb. 7 on ESPNU, at Ole Miss on Feb. 11 on the SEC Network, Florida on Feb. 14 on the SEC Network and back-to-back road games at Texas A&M on Feb. 18 on ESPNU and at LSU on Feb. 21 on SEC Network to close out the brutal stretch.
