Auburn, Ala.--Coming off an up and down performance against Texas A&M in week three, the Auburn Tigers' defense will have another challenge this Saturday when Leonard Fournette and the LSU Tigers come to town for the 5 p.m. kickoff.
Coming off a 147-yard, two-touchdown effort against Mississippi State last week, Fournette has 285 yards and two touchdowns on the season after sitting out the Jacksonville State game because of an ankle injury. Without him Derrius Guice picked up the slack with 155 yards on 19 carries against the Gamecocks. While there are plenty of weapons for the home team to be concerned about, make no mistake about it the focus for Auburn is Fournette after what he did last year.
Rushing for 228 yards and three touchdowns on just 19 carries against Auburn last season, Fournette ran all over Will Muschamp's defense in a 45-21 LSU win. Now with a chance at redemption, junior linebacker Tre Williams said you can't help but want this one a little bit more right now.
"We didn't play well there last year," the Mobile native said. "We sure have to get that 'W' this week so, of course, we're ready for it."
With the focus this week on putting the losses behind them and getting fixed on beating LSU, Williams said this Auburn team is determined to get back in the win column and in the process end a streak that has gone on way too long. Without a conference home win since October of 2014, the linebacker said this is one the Auburn fans deserve to see a be a part of.
"Every win at home feels good," Williams said. "We have great fans, and they support us win, lose or draw. We have to do it for them."
