Auburn, Ala.--With a pair of quarterback sacks, which raised his season total to a half dozen, Auburn defensive end Carl Lawson has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week.
Lawson’s sacks helped Auburn to a 38-14 SEC football victory at Mississippi State on Saturday. One of his sacks led to a 13-yard scoop and score touchdown by tackle Montravius Adams, Auburn’s first defensive touchdown of the season.
Lawson, a redshirt junior who was injured much of the 2015 season, now has 11 career sacks. His play this season is one of the reasons the Tigers are fourth in the SEC in scoring defense allowing just 16 points per contest. In addition to leading Auburn in sacks he has a team-high 11 quarterback hurries and a team-leading 45 yards in tackles for losses.
The Tigers, who are off this week after moving into the AP rankings at No. 23, will return to practice on Tuesday to begin preparations for game seven, a home date vs. the Arkansas Razorbacks, who are playing at home this week vs. Ole Miss.
Auburn is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.
