Oxford, Miss.--His first catch as a college football player is one that Jalen Harris will never forget.
With Auburn trailing 22-20 in the third quarter at Ole Miss, the sophomore tight end lined up at left tackle, but was not covered on the outside so he was an eligible receiver.
Auburn’s pre-snap shifts distracted the Ole Miss defense. “When we shifted the middle of the field was wide open,” Harris said. “As soon as they shifted I was thinking, ‘Oh, this is going to be a touchdown.’ I was just running down the field. I guess they thought I was a tackle.”
Quarterback Sean White threw a perfect pass and Harris ran into the end zone for six points on a 15-yard pass play.
“They told me every day that when it was called it was going to be a touchdown and that is what it was,” said the former St. James High star from Montgomery.
“It looked just like practice,”?he said. “It was just like practice.”
Harris said that he feels like he is making progress in his second season with the Tigers. “I think my blocking has improved and I have a lot of confidence,” he pointed out. “I am having fun out there.”
Harris added, “I told my parents before the game I thought I was going to have a very good game. The touchdown is just icing on the cake.”
