Basketball Prospect Makes Choice

Montreal, Canada--One of the most impressive rising seniors on the summer basketball camp circuit who was considering a visit to Auburn has committed to the University of Kentucky.

Bernard Cote, a 6-9, 230-pound power forward who lives near Montreal, Canada, told Inside the Auburn Tigers that Auburn was on his short list of colleges that he was considering along with Kentucky, Stanford, Kansas, Michigan and Xavier.

A former soccer player, who says he grew too tall for that sport, Cote averaged 14 points and nine rebounds last season. However, that is not what has excited American collegiate coaches. His size and play at high-profile basketball camps in the U.S. this past summer have made him a hot prospect.

"The camps were good for me," says Cote. "There is a lot of good competition to play against."

When asked to describe the best part of his game, Cote says, "My strength is that I am versatile. I can take big men off the dribble and I can post up smaller players and score inside. I am also a good three-point shooter. I am the kind of player who can create mismatches both inside and outside."

Cote says he can also play small forward, but says that he will probably be a power forward in American college basketball.
