Las Vegas, Nev.--A powerful offensive lineman and former Louisville commitment, 6-4, 290 Poutasi Poutasi from Desert Pines High first remembers watching the Auburn Tigers when he was eight years old. Seeing the program win a national title in 2010 and play for another in 2013, Poutasi has always kept a close eye on the Tigers.
This weekend he willl get a chance to see the program up close and personal when he takes an official visit to the Plains. In contact with Auburn Offensive Line Coach Herb Hand for several months, he said he's looking forward to seeing the campus and facilities and seeing that the school is all about.
"I've been talking to Coach Hand for a while," he said. "I think we've built a very strong relationship. I really can't wait to get up there. Auburn has a really great history, great traditions with the Iron Bowl and all that. I want to learn more about it when I get there on my visit.
"He's always working and always bonding with the guys," Poutasi said of Hand. "I think I need that kind of relationship with a coach. He's a great guy and I would love to play for him some day."
Already somewhat familiar with Auburn football, Poutasi said for him it dates back to his younger days growing up in Las Vegas.
"I watched both of those games," he said of the two national title games. "I think I saw them play in about 2008 and that was one of my first college football games. I don't know who they were playing, but I remember it was an AU so I was like 'that must be Auburn.'"
Still waiting on an offer from the Tigers, Poutasi said he hass been recruited as a guard by Hand.
Planning to visit UCF next weekend and Ole Miss on the final weekend and still looking at Nevada, Utah State, and San Diego State in addition to Auburn, Poutasi said he plans to make a decision when he feels comfortable but could wait until signing day if he's unsure.
As to what he's looking for in his future home, he said it's all about comfort and fit.
"I want great academics, which Auburn has," Poutasi said. "I want great coaches, great teammates and a strong relationship. I also want a place I feel at home."
