Tiger Defender Sees Room For Improvement

Comments from one of Auburn's top football players are featured along with notes on AU's game this week vs. Georgia Tech.

Auburn, Ala.--Karlos Dansby says that he would like to see the Auburn defense follow Southern Cal's lead on how to win a football game.

The Trojans' defense not only shut out the Tigers on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Coach Pete Carroll's defenders set up both USC touchdowns with turnovers and also set up a field goal with another turnover. The Trojans had to drive only 20 yards and 14 yards for the game's only touchdowns.

"They put their offense in good situations and that is how they won the ball game," Dansby says. "That is something we have got to do."

The next chance to make something good happen for his Tigers is on Saturday as Auburn plays Georgia Tech. Kickoff time is set for shortly after 2:30 p.m. CDT at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Grant Field. A sellout crowd, with a large group of Auburn supporters, is expected to be there in Atlanta to watch the first Auburn vs. Georgia Tech football game since 1987.

"It is going to be a real important game," Dansby says of Auburn's road trip to play the ACC team that once was an SEC team and one of Auburn's major rivals. "We need to come out and try to establish ourselves and try to get better this week."

Dansby says the best way for his team to get over the hangover from an embarrassing opening day 23-0 loss to Southern Cal is to spend lots of time watching video of the contest, learn from the mistakes and get better on the practice field each day. As a senior, the linebacker says he feels an extra responsibility to help the Tigers get back on track. "Senior leadership should step in when things like this happen," he says. "If people get their heads down, it is my job to pick them up."

Coach Joe Whitt makes a point to linebacker Dontarrious Thomas.
