Auburn Defensive Line Commitment Hoping to Contribute Early In College

Class of 2017 football prospect Alec Jackson visited Auburn over the weekend and has ambitions of contributing early for the Tigers.

Montgomery, Ala.--Up to six-foot-five, 276 pounds as he took his official visit, Auburn commitment Alec Jackson said he isn’t certain at which position he will line up next season while playing for the Tigers.

The senior from Jeff Davis High noted that he could get his first look at either defensive or tackle.

An Auburn signee from the 2016 class, Marlon Davidson, was also a guy who was a possibility to play at either spot and ended up being a starter at end all season, something that Jackson noticed.

“I really want to follow his footsteps, but I do want to make my own mark and then after that somebody can follow me,” Jackson said. “What Marlon did makes me want to go hard and be ready next season.”

Another 2016 Auburn freshman defensive lineman who contributed, Derrick Brown, was a player host for Jackson. “He did an excellent job,” Jackson said. “He is a real fun guy, a real cool, laid-back guy. Even though he didn’t start he played in 13 games and he got a lot of experience.”

Commenting on what the coaches told him about where he will play at Auburn, the Jeff Davis senior said, “They said I?am like a real versatile guy. I still have a lot of stuff to make better. Basically, that is every freshmen going into the SEC.”

Jackson, who said he has weighed as much as 282 pounds this year, said he dropped six pounds by working out. Asked if he is through with the recruiting process, he said, “I am still questioning whether I should go to Ole Miss this weekend--I am basically done.”

Commenting on his weekend on the Plains, he noted that he saw a lot more than he did on previous visits. “Auburn is a really big school, especially the engineering part of campus. It was a very great experience just seeing all of the new things Auburn has to offer.

“It was a great visit and I had a really good time,” said Jackson, who committed to Auburn on Christmas Day.

“I was already thinking about it on the 23rd,” he said of his college choice. “I prayed about it and after that I?made my final decision. I always wanted to play for Auburn. It has been a dream of mine. Now to see my dream almost coming true it is almost overwhelming.

“It was a great experience to be able to visit other colleges,” he pointed out. “I probably won’t get a chance to do it again. Now, everything is starting to settle down for me. I?am ready to sit down and sign something.”
