Earle, Ark.--Already with offers from Alabama, Arkansas State and Memphis very early in the process, class of 2018 athlete Gerry Bohanon added another big one this week with the Auburn Tigers throwing their hat in the ring as well.
Already very familiar with the Tigers after camping on the Plains the last two summers, the 6-4, 215 Bohanon said it felt good to get the offer from Coach Gus Malzahn and company.
“I have been there in the ninth and 10th grade and I enjoyed it,” he said of Auburn. “When I received the offer I was very excited.
“I love the coaching staff, especially Gus. I like the way the football team is and also the campus.”
Like many guys growing up watching college football in the last few years, Bohanon noted that he has been watching Auburn closely because of a certain former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback. Because of that he said the offer from the Tigers was an offer from his “dream school”.
“When I was younger I grew up watching Cam Newton play,” he said. “I was a huge fan of Cam Newton. Honestly, I loved watching him play and I grew closer and better to liking Auburn University.”
Throwing for 2,734 yards and 27 touchdowns while adding 1,134 yards on the ground and 14 more scores last season while also seeing time at defensive end, Bohanon has the skill set that warrants a closer look at quarterback, something the Auburn coaches are keeping in mind, he points out. “They like my arm strength and they said I’m their type of quarterback.”
With still a long time to go until he has to make a decision, Bohanon said there’s no rush for him and he’s planning on taking visits to check out some of the schools on his list.
“I plan on taking a few visits as more offers come,” he said. “I’m just really looking into all the universities that are looking at me.”
