The Super Bowl is getting a lot of attention this week and football fans have varied opinions about what is going to happen. I think there is a good chance it will be a close game with the winner being determined late in the contest. A big play or plays at the right moment could be the difference in winning or losing.
Both New England and Atlanta are good on both sides of the ball. I think Atlanta is probably a little more explosive on offense with Julio Jones at receiver and a quarterback who is playing very well. However, you can’t ever count New England out because they have Brady and Belichick.
The Patriots are used to playing in these big games and that could factor into the decision, but you have to tip your hat to the job the Falcons have done in building their team, especially what Coach Dan Quinn has done in Atlanta. He isn’t nearly as well known as Bill Belichick, but has had success with the Falcons by putting together a strong defense and steadily improving the offense, which he has playing at a really high level going into the Super Bowl.
On the subject of the NFL, I am sure scouts from that league liked what they saw from Auburn defensive tackle Montravius Adams in the Senior Bowl. Montravius will fit in well wherever he goes because he is good enough to have an immediate impact and he really wants to be successful.
He is a great example of how hard work and dedication can make a positive difference. Also, I don’t think there is any question that staying the extra year as a senior helped his draft status tremendously.
Recruiting is winding down with national signing day on Wednesday. Gus Malzahn has also recruited a new coach to run Auburn’s offense and before you know it we will be into spring practice.
Everybody is anxious to see what the new quarterback, Jarrett Stidham, will do. I am looking forward to seeing how much progress the young guys who played last year have made.
It was a good weekend for the Auburn basketball teams. It was interesting that Coach Bruce Pearl’s young guys performed so well on the road in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge vs. TCU in Fort Worth, Tex. If the Tigers keep playing like that the rest of the season I think they will have a chance to win against anybody on the schedule.
The big freshman, Austin Wiley, seems to be getting better and better as he adjusts to the college. It is going to be fun to see how this team continues to develop in the second half of the season.
I really enjoyed watching Coach Flo’s women’s basketball team win their game vs. Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Sunday despite two of the starters being ill. It is fun to watch a team play that hard and do it with passion.
