Decatur, Ala.--One of the top class of 2018 running back prospects in the country, four-star Austin standout Asa Martin has had a big week with offers pouring in from Florida, Oregon and TCU to give him more than a dozen very early in the process.
Still waiting on Auburn to pull the trigger, Martin was recently on the Plains for a junior day and got an opportunity to sit down with the coaches and learn more about new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey.
Spending several hours on campus and seeing the facilities once again, Martin left Auburn still very high on the Tigers.
“It was pretty fun,” Martin said. “It was nice meeting Coach Lindsey and seeing everybody else around. It was nice seeing the campus again, too.”
Coaching at Southern Miss and then at Arizona State, Lindsey hasn’t been a guy that has recruited Martin heavily to this point. After meeting and getting to talk to the coordinator, Martin said he feels like that’s going to change.
“He just told me about the new offense,” Martin said. “He said they were really high on me and to just give them a little time. They want to see how everything stands.
“I want to come up to a camp and show him what I’ve got,” he added. “They want to watch me in the spring and evaluate my tape again--really just see everything.”
Another big plus for the Tigers with Lindsey on board is that he is someone that Austin Coach Jeremy Perkins is very familiar with after the two coached together at Hoover. Martin said that’s something that is big for him.
“They do a lot of stuff we do on offense, too,” Martin said of Lindsey’s Auburn offense. “I think it will be a pretty good fit.”
Planning to be a early graduate, Martin said he’s in no rush to make his decision and it will probably come sometime late in the year following official visits during the season.
Planning to visit LSU and Oklahoma this spring in addition to making it back to Auburn, Martin said also high on Ole Miss and Tennessee as his recruiting continues to ramp up.
