Montgomery, Ala.--A top player for Sidney Lanier High since his freshman season, class of 2018 defensive lineman Alfred Thomas already has offers from several top programs and recently he was back at Auburn to check out the Tigers.
A program he’s very familiar with already, Auburn is a place that Thomas is very fond of and he said getting back to the Plains was a great day for him.
“I love Auburn,” the 6-2, 260 Thomas said. “It feels good going back over because I hadn’t been over there in a while. It was probably two years. It was a good experience and I feel good about Auburn.”
Currently holding offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina and Tennessee along with several others, Thomas said getting one from Auburn would be the icing on the cake.
“It would mean a lot to me,” Thomas said. “I have been wanting this offer since the ninth grade. It would be great if I could get it.”
To get the offer is going to take a little more work from Thomas. While Auburn likes him enough to keep a very close eye on the physical lineman, he said they want to see a little more from him in the coming weeks and months.
“I talked to Coach (Kevin) Steele and he said he loved my film and loved my size,” Thomas said. “He said he just needed me to come down for A-Day and for a camp.”
The good news for Thomas is that Auburn is putting a big emphasis on the defensive line in the 2018 signing class. With the ability to play strongside defensive end or make a move inside to tackle, Thomas’ versatility makes him a guy to keep an eye on.
Wanting to make his decision sometime before his senior season begins, Thomas said it’s an exciting time and he plays to enjoy every moment.
“It’s getting serious,” Thomas said. “It’s time to make a decision. When I was in ninth grade I wasn’t ready for all that. Now I’m ready for it and it has been a good experience.”
