Auburn, Ala.--Getting ready to face one of the top teams in the country when the No. 5 Florida Gators come to Plainsman Park for a three-game series to open SEC baseball play, Coach Butch Thompson and the Auburn Tigers (14-5) enter with plenty of momentum thanks to a four-game winning streak and a pitching staff that has allowed just one earned run in the last 36 innings.
Now with Keegan Thompson, Casey Mize and Davis Daniel ready to go to work on the mound, the coach said now it’s all about going out and doing your job and letting everything else take care of itself.
“I like my three starters and I want them to go out there and my charge to them is to compete your heart out,” Thompson said. “Make me pull you off that mound. I’m going to slow to pull our starters in this series. I want them to go out and give them the best shot they’ve got and let’s see how we can match up with one of the best teams in America...
“That’s where we’re just starting to initialize the first full season," the coach added. "The sooner we can stand there and keep understanding, we’re not trying to rise to a level of competition but we’re just trying to go with the training we’ve put in, we’ll get to where we want to be sooner.”
