Waycross, Ga.--Planning to make a decision sometime before his senior season at Ware County High, 2018 linebacker prospect Ernest Jones IV was on the Auburn campus on Saturday to check out the Tigers and spend time with Coach Travis Williams.
Making his first trip to the Plains, the 6-2, 215 Jones left with Auburn climbing his list following a visit he enjoyed.
“It was good,” Jones said. “I like it there. It feels like home a little bit. I’m going to go back home and decide where I want to go soon.
“I think it will be the beginning of May,” he added of a potential decision. “I will try to do it before spring practice.”
Watching the Tigers scrimmage on Saturday, he said that the defense really stood out to him and showed him what he wanted to see.
“The defense has very good intensity and I like practicing fast and getting it on and getting it popping,” Jones said. “That’s what I like.”
With Auburn in a top group at the moment along with Duke, Georgia Tech and South Carolina, Jones said Williams’ energy and coaching come to mind when he thinks about the Tigers.
“Coach T-Will, he stands out,” Jones said. “You can tell he loves his players and he is going to make sure I’m good while I’m there. I’ll get a good education while I’m there. That’s stands out.”
A student-athlete who plans to graduate high school early, Jones said that Auburn is on the move, but isn't at the top of his list. “I would say right now it’s probably Duke because of the medical program,” Jones said. “That’s what I’m leaning towards right now, but Auburn is close.”
Planning to make a return visit to Auburn, Jones said he’ll either return for the A-Day game on April 8 or Big Cat Weekend later in the spring.
