Gainesville, Fla.--Kelly Barnhill continued her dominating season as she struck out 16 Auburn batters while the Florida Gators improved to 29-1 with a 7-0 softball victory over the Tigers on Sunday night.
Auburn, which dropped to 27-5 overall and 2-3 in the SEC, will wrap up the series at 6 p.m. CDT on Monday night.
Barnhill, who improved to 11-0, allowed just two hits, both from Kasey Cooper who singled and doubled. Auburn's 16 strikeouts were a season high for the Tigers.
Makayla Martin suffered the loss, falling to 12-4 the season. The Gators scored single runs in the second and fourth innings and were never threatened, unlike the series opener when they rallied for a comeback, walk-off win.
Martin gave up eight hits and seven runs in 4 1/3 innings with five of the runs earned. Freshman Ashlee Swindle allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Nicole Dewitt and Chelsea Herndon had two hits apiece to lead the Florida offense while Aleshia Ocasio scored three times as their team improved to 7-0 in the SEC.
Monday night’s game will be televised on the SEC Network.
