Mobile, Ala.--One of the hottest prospects in Alabama for the 2018 class, 6-4, 235 defensive end Andres Fox from Mobile Christian was on the Auburn campus Saturday to check out the Tigers in a scrimmage.
Spending the day with Coach Rodney Garner and watching the defensive line in action on the field, Fox said the trip went very well.
“I had a great experience with Coach G today,” Fox said. “They showed me the new dorms and stuff.
“I loved it,” he added. “The d-line was active. Coach G really pushed them hard.”
Recently naming Auburn, Alabama and LSU as his three leaders, Fox said that’s still the case following his most recent visit to the Plains but he saw plenty to like from the Tigers.
“I have a long relationship with them and they were my first big offer,” he said of the offer that came last December. “And they watched me play in the state championship. I have the best bond you can have with them.”
Something that Auburn has going for it is Garner coaching the defensive line. An old school coach that pushes his players each and every day, Fox said he liked seeing the work the defensive line put in on Saturday.
“He’s going to push you to be the best player you can be; and he loves you at the end of the day.”
Being recruited as both a defensive end and a Buck linebacker by Auburn, Fox has a skill set that allows him to fit in defenses at Alabama and LSU as well. Much like Auburn, he said there are specific things he likes about each of his other two favorites as well.
On Alabama: “It’s Nick Saban and all the great players that came through there.”
On LSU: “Pete Jenkins, I sat down and talked to him, and he showed me some stuff that could make me a real great player.”
In no rush to make a decision, Fox said he’s just waiting on the right time and finding the right fit.
