SEC Baseball Notebook: Big Week For The Auburn Tigers Has Them Moving On Up The Rankings

Auburn went 3-1 this week, including a walk-off win over #6 South Carolina on Sunday.

Auburn, Ala.--Even without junior pitcher Keegan Thompson available to pitch over the weekend the Auburn Tigers found a way to win two of three from visiting South Carolina, finishing things off with a three-run walk-off homer from freshman Conor Davis on Sunday.

Combine those wins with a victory over Alabama on Tuesday in the Capital City Classic and it was another very good week for the Tigers on the diamond as they continue their tear. With 13 wins in the last 15 games, Auburn’s start is the best since 2003 for the program. That season the Tigers started 9-3 in league play.

That means another move in the rankings this week with the Tigers vaulting to 7th in the Baseball America poll, 8th in Collegiate Baseball, and 11th in D1baseball. The move in Baseball America is the highest ranking for Auburn in that poll since 2004.

Player Of The Week: Auburn senior first baseman Daniel Robert was 5-12 for the week with a pair of runs scored and four RBI for the Tigers. One of his hits came in the biggest of situations on Sunday when his single in the ninth inning brought the tying run to the plate for the Tigers in the win over South Carolina.

For the season Robert is batting .321, leads Auburn with 24 RBI, and is a perfect 7-7 in stolen base attempts.

Pitcher Of The Week: This is an easy choice this week with sophomore Casey Mize pitching a complete game in Friday’s win over South Carolina. Allowing four earned runs and striking out 12 with just one walk, Mize improved his record to 4-1 on the season. He now has 63 strikeouts and just seven walks in 45 ? innings pitched this year.
