Phenix City, Ala.--One of the top prospects in the country, wide receiver Justyn Ross has been a frequent visitor to Auburn this spring and he was back on Saturday to see the Tigers in the A-Day game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Watching as Jarrett Stidham, Malik Willis and the other quarterbacks combined to throw for 491 yards on 32-44 attempts, Ross said he saw big things out of the Tigers in the way of throwing the football.
“I like what I saw,” Ross said. “I like how they were throwing it around a lot. I liked it a lot.
“It was very important,” he added. “That’s why I made it a priority to get up there, to actually see what they can do.”
Saying that both Stidham and Willis stood out to him, Ross said he also liked the way Nate Craig made play after play outside at the wide receiver position for Coach Kodi Burns.
“They have strong arms and they’re accurate,” Ross said. “I like how the receivers came up and made plays.”
Justyn Ross is one of the top prospects in the state for the 2018 signee class.
Getting the sales pitch from Auburn since Chip Lindsey arrived that the Tigers were going to throw it more often, Ross said it was huge for him to see that in action for the first time.
“It was very important just because of the fact that I actually saw them do what they said they were going to do.”
The performance on A-Day was a big step for Auburn’s chances with Ross, but there is still more to be done in his mind. That means backing it up in the fall and doing the same thing against teams like Clemson and the SEC schedule.
“I still want to see it against different teams, but they are showing me a lot of great things,” he said. “Today was a big day.”
Planning to go to Alabama’s spring game on April 22nd, Ross said he’s expecting to return to Auburn for Big Cat Weekend.
