A 6-5, 190-pound guard, Kiss earned freshman all-conference honors at Quinnipiac in Connecticut after averaging 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists. However, the coaching staff there was fired and he is planning to leave at the end of spring semester in May.
“It went really well,” he said of his official visit to check out Coach Bruce Pearl’s program. "I love the coaching staff and the facilities. I love everything Coach Pearl, Coach (Harris) Adler and Coach (Chuck) Person were talking about so I think I had an overall great visit.”
A native of New York City, the previous week he made an unofficial visit to Seton Hall. Next weekend the guard plans to visit Rutgers and is considering visits to Oklahoma, Rhode Island and St. John’s.
Asked what will be the important factors in picking a program, Kiss said, “How comfortable I am with the coaching staff, my position on the team and definitely winning.”
Commenting on his style of play, Kiss said, “I definitely play hard and I am a competitor who gets after it on both ends of the floor. I dentilely have a lot to improve on, but I am trying to get better every day.
“I consider myself pretty versatile," added. “I can play the one, two or three. I? handle the ball well enough to play the one at times and shoot the ball when I play the two or three, and I feel I am big enough to play the three (small forward).”
Kiss said he was impressed with the campus and really enjoyed going to the top of Haley Center to see the view from Eagle’s Nest.
“The basketball facilities are incredible and I love the setup with the weight room being next to the practice floor," said Kiss, who wants to earn his degree in business. “I checked out some dorms and some academic buildings, and I talked to academic advisers, so it was all-around a great visit.”
Asked where Auburn stands, he said, “They jumped right to the top of my list--not right to the top, but I am definitely considering them. I love the coaching staff so that is a great point right there.”
As a high school senior Kiss played at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass. As a junior he played at Victory Rock Prep School in Sarsota, Fla., and before that was at Monsignor Scanlan High in The Bronx, N.Y.
