Auburn Baseball Notebook: Road Series Win At MSU Continues Upward Climb For Tigers

The Auburn baseball Tigers got a huge series win at Mississippi State over the weekend to move into a tie for first in the SEC through seven weeks.

Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn Tigers took another step towards potentially being a host site for the NCAA Baseball Tournament with a series win at Mississippi State thanks to a doubleheader sweep on Saturday in Starkville.

With an RPI of 19 coming out of the weekend, Coach Butch Thompson’s team heads into finals week on the Plains with an overall record of 32-14 and 14-7 in SEC play, good enough for a first-place tie with Kentucky and Mississippi State.

Welcoming Alabama to Plainsman Park this coming weekend with a trip to LSU the following week before closing out the regular season at home against Ole Miss, the Tigers have an opportunity to add more wins to the total before the SEC Tournament in Hoover.

Player of the Week: First baseman Dylan Ingram had a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs in the series against Mississippi State, but the week that Jonah Todd makes him our ITAT player of the week for the Tigers. In four games the center fielder was 8-16 with five runs scored, five walks and four runs batted in. For the week he reached base in 13 of 16 official at-bats to raise his on-base percentage to .485 for the season.

Pitcher of the Week: This week that goes to the Auburn bullpen. While they had some struggles along the way, the relievers were the difference for the Tigers in a series win over Mississippi State. Cole Lipscomb, Andrew Mitchell, Calvin Coker, Elliott Anderson and Gabe Klobosits all did a solid job over the weekend against a potent Bulldog offense.

In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader Lipscomb allowed just a run on four hits in four and two/thirds innings to pick up the win for the Tigers. In game two Mitchell, Anderson and Coker combined to allow just three runs over nine innings in a series-clinching victory.
