Homestead, Fla.--Committing to Florida State in April, 6-3, 1/2, 220 linebacker/pass rusher Patrick Joyner has been hearing from Coach Larry Porter for several months and on Wednesday the Auburn assistant was at South Dade Senior High to watch the team in action during a spring practice.
A player capable of putting his hand in the dirt as a pass rusher but also dropping into coverage because of his athleticism, Joyner said he got good news following his workout.
“I was in the middle of practice and I guess he (Porter) liked the way I was working,” Joyner said. “He saw my size and how I worked and I guess he was impressed.”
Already familiar with Auburn, Joyner said that while he’s still a Seminole the Tigers deserve to get a closer look from him in the future.
“I know they have a great program,” Joyner said. “I know that for sure. It’s the SEC and they play big schools. It’s a nice program.
“It’s a blessing that even though I’m committed they were still giving me a chance to be part of their team. I’ll have to check more into them.”
Rated the No. 20 outside linebacker in the South, Joyner also has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Oregon State, South Florida, Syracuse and others.
