Damaging Weekend For Auburn Baseball

Auburn's series sweep at the hands of last place Alabama was damaging to the Tigers' postseason possibilities.

Auburn, Ala.--Coming off an impressive series win over Mississippi State the previous weekend with a depleted roster, the Auburn Tigers entered a weekend SEC series against Alabama as a heavy favorite for the first time this season but did not play like it, dropping all three games to seriously damage their chances of making a run at the SEC regular season title and also of being an NCAA Regional Tournament host.

Falling from first to seventh in the SEC standings, Auburn is now 14-10 in SEC play with an RPI that dropped from 19th to 37th in the country. With series left at LSU and at home vs. Ole Miss, the Tigers have a chance to climb in RPI, but the biggest issue now is getting wins. Auburn likely needs at least two wins in the last two series to have a chance for a regional bid with three making it a more comfortable SEC Tournament for the Tigers.

Player of the Week:

Forced into the lineup because of injuries, redshirt freshman Jeremy Johnson continues to play well for the Tigers in the outfield. Going 5-13 in three games against Alabama, Johnson had five RBI and three runs scored in the series. For the year he’s batting .360 in SEC play in nine games with six starts.
